 About my classes:

World Literature:
During world lit I want to expose them to stories from all over the world , some old classics, some new wanna be classics. Either way I am sure they will all enjoy the projects. The books we will be covering this semester are: Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne; Inkheart by Cornelia Funke;  A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute; Facing the Lion: Growing Up Maasai by Joseph Lemasolai Lekuton and Herman Viola; A Theif of Time by Tony Hillerman

9th Grade Literature:
Now that you have been introduced to some of the classics, it's time to add some mystery, romance and adventure. We are going to have a mystery lunch, create our own legends, find what's behind the mask, and reach for God. The books we will be reading this semester are: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain; Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard; Cirano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand.

Writing 101:
This is where we start from the beginning. Sentence structure is the key, followed by vocabulary and how to put it all together for the perfect paper. Without good communication you can't fully convey your ideas and thoughts. The plan for this class is to write until it become second nature. You might not be able to do it orally, but hopefully when you finish this class you will be able pen it well.

Homework Due 3/8: Read The Lottery, Pick a topic from the story, Research 3 literature criticisms online about your topic, This means you will have 4 sources in which to prepare cards. You are to bring in a total of 24 cards containing no more than 2 quotes cards, 3 summary cardsand a bibliography from each piece. Make sure you use the information given to you in class about summaries and bibliographies. Please contact me if you have any questions.

7th Grade Georgia History:
Georgia History will continue onward with baskets and soap carving, then off to the Gold Rush. There will be Wild West Days and the Millineum Gate Museum to name a few of the wonderful things I hope they enjoy for 2010.

Economics:
They say money makes the world go round, but how does it work, where does it come from and how do I get my hands on it? Well this is the class. This year you will learn how to follow the money from the government, to your job, to your everyday life. We will be going on 2 fieldtrips this year; The Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta and AromaRidge Coffees.

We have conquered the Revolutionary war, found truth about the Civil War and now we will continue on to WWI, the Depression, WWII, the Korean War, those crazy 60's, and into the economic downturn of the 70's. I have a unit on the Holocaust and we will be attending The Breman Museum.

Important Information PLEASE READ!

1.  Please be on time for class, late arrivals limit the amount of information I teach to your student.

2.  Remember I am here to help, just contact me: mslargin@richardsacademy.com or 770-645-2846. (please do not call after 9 PM)

3.  Everyone will receive a syllabus on the first day of school. Additional copies can be made off this page, just click on the appropriate class below. Please keep one in your notebook and one at home. Any changes to it will be given in class and emailed.

4.  I do not accept late work, nor do I reschedule exams. Please plan to attend or make plans prior if you are not able to attend class that day. (get notes from a friend, schedule exam early, etc)

5.  I give lots of projects and there is plenty of time to complete them. Start IMMEDIATELY, do not wait. I usually give one class time between projects called "team time" to work in class, but ALL RESEARCH needs to be done BEFORE coming to class. This gives me the opportunity to make sure you are on the right path.

6.  Disruptive or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. The classroom is designed for the student who wants to learn. Students who inhibit the learning process will be removed from the class.

7.  I believe in giving rewards where a reward is due. With that being said, I will exempt your student from midterms and/or final exams if they have an "A" and less than 2 unexcused absences or a "B" and less than 1 unexcused absence. Your student is always welcome to take the test to better their grade.

8.  My grade scale is as follows:

     100-90 = A       89-80 = B       79-74 = C       73 -0 = F

I love what I do and I hope you students enjoy my class.
