Welcome Back to RCA! Fall 2010
I
am excited to get this year started at Richards! I am
going on 14 years of doing what I love- teaching! This year it is my job
to help prepare the students for high school and college. Moving out
of elementary school and into middle school classes can be a challenge,
but together, we can do it! We will be learning how to do a variety of
"new" things this year. Please, don't wait to contact me if you have
any questions. I am here for you!
PLEASE READ AND ADHERE TO THE BASIC GUIDELINES BELOW!
1. Please be on time for class; late arrivals limit the amount of information or class discussion a student is able to gain from.
2. Please don’t allow confusion to cloud your mind! I am here for you! You will not gain understanding or help if you do not seek me out for clarity! hprice@richardsacademy.com. I will respond as soon as possible!
3. I do not accept late work, nor do I reschedule exams. NO EXCEPTIONS! Please plan to attend or make prior plans if you are not able to attend class that day. (Get notes from a friend, schedule exam early, etc.)
4. A lot of writing assignments are given as well as ample time to complete them. Do NOT procrastinate!! Start IMMEDIATELY! I allow time in class to work on the assignments so as to be there for any questions; however, all information HAS TO BE ATTAINED prior to class time! Our goal is to develop the skills necessary for a successful student, so DO NOT waste your time or mine!
5.
Disruptive or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
6. There will be mid-term and final exams. I believe in giving rewards where a reward is due; therefore, exemptions may be allowed for these exams if a student has an "A" and 2 or fewer absences or a "B" and 1 or fewer absences. This is cumulative for the semester. Your student is always welcome to take the test to better semester grades.
7. The grading scale is as follows:
100-90 = A 89-80 = B 79-74 = C 73 -0 = F
8. Supplies needed for 2010-2011: -highligters (pink, blue, green, yellow, orange)
-2 inch 3-ring binder (used for only Language Arts/Lit classes) -loose leaf paper for binder
-access to a thesaurus & dictionary (will be used in class) -5 dividers (for both classes)
** A NEW composition notebook for weekly journal writing -a ream of copy paper
9. MLA documentation will be used in all writing this year. In the To the left, you will find information on how to appropriately create an essay. Your grade will reflect your ability to follow directions in documentation as well as the directions given for each individual writing assignment or project. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR APPLYING THE MLA DOCUMENTATION TO YOUR ASSIGNMENT!
